Today we are going to talk about planning your meals read more here. One of the most important aspects of a camping trip is the food. If you have a bad meal, it will stick with you forever. I will show how you can spend half the day cooking while still serving a delicious meal. Planning and prepping ahead of time is a great way for you to spend more time doing what you really came for, “Camping”. In a later post, I will share with you a recipe which includes a fantastic way to pre cook the pasta. The ration method is one way to plan meals. Another method is the recipe method. Today I will be focusing on the Recipe Method. In a subsequent issue I will discuss the ration method. Recipe method will be easier for small groups in a tent setting. Ration method is best if your group is large or you want to be mobile.
It is fun and easy to create a daily meal plan based on the activities you have planned. Don’t worry about your space or food supply. If you are going hiking, for example, sandwiches can be a great option. If you intend to stay near the location, you may be able to afford more expensive meals. I like to prepare for all kinds of scenarios. Once you get to the site, you can fix things. Don’t follow your menu exactly. Enjoy yourself, be creative and spontaneous.
When you have a list of supplies, decide how much space and weight is needed. You can adjust the menu or equipment to suit your needs. Just creating the menu could be difficult. Here, the goal is to have a good time. This method is a great way to plan your meals without having to make a bunch of weight and size calculations. Meal planning can be complicated. While this is necessary for some situations, such as backpacking or long-term trips, it’s not needed for the typical campsite. In case you forget to bring something with you, there are usually stores nearby or at the campground. While you might be angry that you had to spend more than twice the price of something, at least your family won’t suffer.
